Andrew Hall

 

Andrew Hall is a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Auckland, New Zealand. Completing a BE hon 1st in materials and processing engineering and a Bmus in Performance Saxophone, he received his PhD in Acoustical Engineering at the University of Auckland in 2014 specializing in metamaterials. After spending 4 years at Callaghan Innovation as a research engineer, he joined the University of Auckland in 2017. With two successful MBIE Smart ideas grants as Principle investigator since joining the University of Auckland, his main research areas include impact insulation of floors using granular materials, sound insulation of walls and windows using acoustic and elastic metamaterials, musical acoustics, marine energy harvesting and mechanical sound generation.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Andrew is lead alto saxophone with the Auckland Jazz Orchestra and several other bands around New Zealand and has performed at national and international festivals with artists such as Eric Marienthal, Chris Thompson, Georgie Fame, Dave Matthews and the late Rodger Fox.
